Addiction is a medical condition characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli, despite adverse consequences .Despite the involvement of a number of psychosocial factors, a biological process – one which is induced by repeated exposure to an addictive stimulus is the core pathology that drives the development and maintenance of an addiction. The two properties that characterize all addictive stimuli are that they are reinforcing and intrinsically rewarding.
Addiction is a disorder of the brain’s reward system which arises through transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms and occurs over time from chronically high levels of exposure to an addictive stimulus. A Gene transcription factor is a critical component and common factor in the development of virtually all forms of behavioral and drug addictions. Addiction exacts a high toll on individuals and society as a whole through the direct adverse effects of drugs, associated healthcare costs, long-term complications, the functional consequent loss of productivity. Classic hallmarks of addiction include impaired behavior, and continued us despite consequences. Track 3: Drug Abuse and Neurotoxicology
Drug addiction is a brain disease that is characterized by compulsive drug seeking, despite of it's harmful consequences. It causes changes in the normal activity of the nervous system damaging the nerve tissues, killing neurons and this leads to dis-regulation of neural system. Thus uncontrolled drug use results in toxicity of brain. Some of the behavioral effects of drug addiction include Paranoia, Aggressiveness, Impulsiveness, and Loss of Self-Control. Prescription drugs that are often abused are opioids, sleep medicines.

Track 4: New Insight in Addiction Research
New advances in psychology and neuroscience have shed light on the changes that long-term use of alcohol and other drugs brings into the brain especially in brain reward system, to foster continued and chronic patterns of compulsive drug abuse. New research topics in addiction include Behavioral Pharmacology Research, Relationship between youth violence and substance abuse, effect of alcohol on cognitive functioning and cocaine vaccines and addiction epidemiological research. Behavioral Pharmacology Research implies broad-based substance abuse clinical research program encompassing both human laboratory research and outpatient treatment research. Cocaine abuse is an ongoing and serious problem therefore vaccines against cocaine are being developed.

Track 5: Addiction - From Animal Models to Case Studies
Animal models has contributed immensely to our understanding of addiction mainly drug abuse, it's consequences and prevention and treatment. Animal studies have yielded fundamental insights into why people abuse drugs and how drugs cause the compulsion and disordered thinking seen in addiction. It is a valuable research tools because they allow scientists to conduct experiments that they could never perform on humans. It has various effects on human race, results from animal studies should be extrapolated to humans with caution, their value is incalculable. Case reports are also incorporated in addiction research.

Effect of substance abuse in adolescence is a very risky proposition. Substance Use Disorders occur when a person has a dependence on alcohol and or drugs that is accompanied by intense and sometimes uncontrollable cravings and compulsive behaviours to obtain the substance. They are believed to contribute 40% to 60% to the risk for alcoholism; research on the genetics of alcohol dependency suggests that the tendency to become alcoholic is inherited via presumed genetic mutations. The altered gene functions due to mutation result in altered brain proteins.

For the addiction induced brain disorders it's around 500-700 billion euros. Neurological disorders resulted from addiction activities costs 212.6 billion euros. Anxiety and psychoatic disorders caused by addiction costs 76 billion euros to the european countries.National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), USA estimates these addiction costs USA more than $600 billion dollars in the term of healthcare, subsidized treatments and prevention efforts.
The global market for the addiction treatment and medications is estimated to raise around $ 3.6 billion dollars by the year 2016 which is currently around $3.2 billion dollars. 165% growth has been seen in the clinical research and development in the area of addiction treatment medicines."Pfizer" which is one of the leading biopharmaceutical companies is going to launch the Champix/ Chantix prescription medication which helps to quit smoking. This will set up the example for other pharmaceutical companies to produce addiction treatment medications. There is also a lot of research is going on combating addiction disorders of alcohol, cocaine, opioid, methamphetamine, cannabis and tobacco using new neuro-receptors/peptides and antibody therapies. Around 280 million people in the part of America and Europe are at the danger of addiction habit of drugs for non-medical use. Because of these key factors, there is huge scope for pharmaceutical companies, doctors and researchers to find out the medications for this addiction disorders which will stimulate the growth of medications for addiction disorders.
Besides this, World Health Organization (WHO) predicted that the mental illness is one of the important and growing reasons for the disability globally. Depression and anxiety are top cause of mental illness. To combat with this surge in the future mental health facilities will prioritize mental health facilities to treat and prevent mental illness. Addiction of alcohol or different drugs is the key reason for the CNS and brain disorders. These also add disorders like depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, personality disorder, epilepsy, psychosis and much more. Therefore, it is responsibility of the science community to plan and execute the research experiments in the field of addiction diagnosis and treatment.
Why Prague, Czech republic?
A rapid assessment conducted in the Czech Republic during the second half of 1995. The main aim of the assessment was to describe patterns of illicit drug use, particularly in the capital, Prague. A Rapid Assessment Board was established to oversee the study, and both secondary and original data were collected from a range of sources. Illicit drug use was found to have increased throughout the country in the preceding five years, with amphetamines being the most popular substance. Polydrug use is common. There has been an increase in the use of the so-called "dance drugs", especially lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), among younger people, and heroin, especially in the main urban areas. Injecting is on the increase, too. There is an urgent need to expand both fixed-site and community-based services to prevent and eliminate these addiction disorders.
